As America deals with questions at what seems like the ending of a global pandemic, the live entertainment industry is still in tatters. No industry was hit as hard as the entertainment industry, displacing hundreds of thousands of performers across the arts (theater, music, circus, magic, etc). In crisis, live entertainment is always the first thing people get rid of, and the last thing they bring back. And yet in the middle, people are hungry to be entertained.
So as we begin to come back to live entertainment, here are a few things to keep in mind while planning an event in Florida.
- Many performers are already offering pandemic and post-pandemic discounts as they try to get back to work. Please do not ask for further discounts or ask entertainers to work for free. They have been hurting and need the work to support themselves and their families.
- When you hear a performer’s price and think it sounds too high, consider that you are not just paying for the hour or two you have them at your event. If you are truly hiring a professional, you will be paying for their years of hard work, dedication, training, and financial investment into honing their craft to be the best they can be for you.
- If you are still concerned about pandemic precautions, don’t be afraid to address your concerns at the time of booking. Many performers are happy to work a cleverly matching mask into their costumes, or to set up boundary areas to establish safe social distances between themselves and the guests. While entertainers are happy to get back to work, they are equally happy to be sickness-free.
- Have fun! Both the guests and the performers will be excited to get back to something “normal,” so enjoy the experience!
